Gio: David Stearns doesn't seem committed to Pete Alonso

After hearing David Stearns' comments about Pete Alonso's future on the Foul Territory podcast, Gio wonders if the new Mets president of baseball operations sees the homegrown slugger as a player worth paying big money for.

"I think David Stearns legitimately doesn't know if Pete Alonso is part of the Mets future right now," Gio said. "They offered Yamamoto how much money? So they got the money if they want to keep him, I just don't think David Stearns is completely sold on him being a Met for the rest of his career.

"David Stearns does not seem like a guy that is committed to Pete Alonso."

Stearns said the likely scenario is the Mets and Alonso focusing on the upcoming season, which would suggest that Alonso will get to free agency. Boomer believes it may not be Stearns' indecision on Alonso, and could be more because of Alonso's agent, Scott Boras, urging his client to test the open market to secure the highest possible payday.

"This is not the Mets' fault. This is the player and the agent," Boomer said. "They can't do it, because his agent doesn't want him to do it."
