Gio defends Mets fans after Brandon Nimmo calls for seats to be filled for Phillies series

Boomer and Gio opened Thursday’s show by discussing Brandon Nimmo’s postgame comments on Wednesday, calling for Mets fans to show up for a critical upcoming series against the Phillies.

Gio began by standing up for the Met fan, who he believes has gotten too much heat this season, as the attendance numbers have been a major talking point.

“I want to defend the Met fan a little bit in this regard, because I feel like they’re getting crushed for not coming to these games,” Gio said. “They got crushed in 2022, they were crushed last year, and the offseason wasn’t very excited…they were waiting. To act as if they’re not gonna show up against the Phillies or for the playoffs, that’s not gonna happen. The Met fan is gonna show up. They’re going to be there. Everything is gonna be alright.

“I was annoyed hearing some of this, like the Met fan doesn’t care about the team right now because they’re not going to the games. That’s a lie…you can care and not want to go to Citi Field to see them play the Nationals on a Wednesday night when your kids just went back to school.”

Boomer agrees with Nimmo that the time is now for the fans to fill the stadium as the Mets look to lock up a Wild Card spot, but he wouldn’t have said anything in the first place.

“That’s a distraction. We don’t need distractions right now,” Boomer said. “What we need is focus, to be supremely focused on the task at hand, which is these games against the Phillies, which I think are going to be well attended. This is a playoff push. It’s what we were all hoping for.

“It’s time for us as Mets fans to support the team. I’m with Brandon Nimmo, but I think it’s distracting. Maybe it’s something for us as fans to talk about. But I think you’ll see a good crowd in these four games.”
