Gio: First win of season doesn't hide reality that Mets 'suck'
The Mets finally came through and picked up their first win of the season in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader, but it hardly inspired any hope in Gio.
Instead, Gio is much more focused on the fact that the Mets needed a ninth-inning comeback to avoid an 0-6 start to the season, and that the offense has been largely silenced through six games.
"Let's not overrate this moment," Gio said. "Gary Cohen screaming on these calls as if they won the World Series. They still suck. They're horrible.
"Sorry, this is gonna be a long-ass depressing season."
While the walk-off win following a game-tying home run by Pete Alonso in the ninth inning was a fun moment, it did very little to make Gio forget about the reality of the Mets' situation.
"The pendulum cannot swing that far because of a couple runs in the ninth inning after you had been that futile," Gio said.
