Gio is detaching from reeling Mets: 'Not gonna let them ruin my summer'

Gio has seen enough painful Mets losses this year to know that more are on the way, and that this team doesn't seem destined for big things in October.

So, after coughing up a 5-1 lead to the Yankees on Tuesday night, Gio says he is ready to step back from his emotional investment to the team, and simply enjoy his summer.

"It's getting to that point where I'm thinking we have to emotionally detach.
It can't affect us any longer," Gio said. "I'm not gonna let them ruin my summer. We only get two hand a half really nice months around here, and I'm not letting Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander ruin my summer. I won't do it."

So, Gio will be hitting the links and playing some pickleball instead of wondering when Maz Scherzer is going to return to form, or when Francisco Lindor will start hitting again, or when the Mets will get rid of Daniel Vogelbach.

"Last night, as I'm watching them blow this lead and Max Scherzer imploding again, what am I doing? I'm laughing," Gio said. "Because it's gotten that bad."
