Darin Ruf lined out in a pinch hit spot with the bases loaded in Monday night's loss to the Cubs, and Gio says he has seen enough of the trade deadline platoon acquisition, who has an OBP below .200 since joining the Mets.
"Over his career, that's great," Gio said. "But in other uniforms. Right now he's a nothing at-bat. When he gets up there, it's an automatic out.
"I'm done with that guy. I know he's supposed to be the right-handed DH, but if you carry him into the postseason, that's a mistake. He can't hit."
In addition to Ruf, Daniel Vogelbach has gone cold after a hot start to his Mets tenure, while Mychal Givens has struggled out of the bullpen as New York's relief addition at the deadline.
"Trade deadline not looking so hot," Gio said bluntly.
