Gio: Mets fans ripped me for not fully buying into hot streak, and now, here we are

The Mets have suddenly dropped four in a row, the bats have gone cold, and they are now two games back of the Braves for the final Wild Card spot after falling to the A's on Tuesday night.

Gio is hardly surprised by the team's recent swoon, as he believes it is part of the ebbs and flows of a long season for a mediocre team, an opinion he believes he was roasted for when he expressed it last month, when the Mets were playing like one of the best teams in baseball for an extended stretch.

"The Met fan on social media these days is almost as sensitive as any other fanbase that's out there," Gio said. "I still remain a Mets fan…I still want to see this team win and still love this team. I said a couple weeks ago, when they were in the middle of this winning streak that I still, because of the flaws they had, was not a full believer in this team.

"I got absolutely roasted by these Mets fans. 'How could you be so negative with this team? What kind of loser are you?'"

Well, Gio now feels somewhat vindicated, and while he doesn't take any joy in that, he does believe the Mets are showing their true colors as a roughly .500 team that will likely fall just short of a postseason berth.

"The way they were hitting did not seem sustainable…we understand that the bullpen, albeit better with some additions, still stinks. And the rotation had guys that had been overachieving," Gio said. "I'm not surprised they're on this losing streak. I've stayed steadfast that they're not going to make the playoffs, but I think it's going to be really interesting."
