Gio: Mets will have to 'blow this entire thing up' if struggles continue

The Mets are now 0-4 on the season, and while it's still early, Gio says David Stearns and company are going to have to hit the detonate button on the current roster if things don't improve.

"The Mets…have major problems," Gio said. "If they have these guys that you called - because they have been - legitimate, everyday players, if they have bad seasons again, then they're gonna have to blow this entire thing up. There's no two ways about it."

Gio would prefer that outcome, or of course a winning season, over the alternative of being a mediocre team with no clear answer on what direction to go after the season, so if the team craters and holds a fire sale at the deadline, so be it.

"I think the worst possible thing is for them to hover around .500," Gio said. "Give us a decision on where this organization is gonna go…Pete Alonso hits 50 home runs and the Mets win 85 games, that would be amazing. Alonso has a great run, let's sign Pete Alonso. If Alonso hits 50 home runs and the Mets are 15 games under .500 for most of the year, then get rid of him.

"Maybe this bad starts turns into a 1-11 disaster and we know these players aren't gonna cut it, and David Stearns can get to work on remaking this roster."
