Gio, after watching Sunday's eighth-inning collapse, is ready to say that the Mets are on their way to producing the most embarrassing season in franchise history.
"This is now turning into, if it isn't already, the most embarrassing season they've ever had," Gio said. "We have to see how this goes, but they are on that track."
That is not something Gio takes lightly, as there are plenty of other candidates in the pained history of Mets fandom.
"Losing more games than any in the history of baseball when they were an expansion team in 1962, 'The Worst Team Money Can Buy in 1992'…the 2007 season collapse," Gio said. "There have been lots of them out there. and this one right here, with the expectations they had, the money being spent, and how they are losing these games, we are in the midst of their most embarrassing season ever."
Taking it a step further, Gio says it could very well become the most embarrassing season in baseball history.
"If they finish out of the playoffs and finish several games below .500, then it has to be," Gio said. "It's by far the most expensive team ever, they came off a year last year when they were very good, and then came back with this. So it has to be."
