Gio: Mets show traits of team that can be successful in playoffs

The Mets are on the cusp of advancing to the NLDS, coming back to beat the Brewers 8-4 after a monster fifth inning and a resilient performance from Luis Severino.

For Gio, the win was emblematic of how the Mets have operated since June, continuing to bounce back and make the necessary plays to get the job done, while contributions were made from up and down the roster.

"This team and the situations they have been in with their backs against the wall…they bounce right back," Gio said. "You could pick out any number of guys who got big hits in big situations, from Jose Iglesias hustling to first and keeping that inning going, to JD Martinez…to Jesse Winker's two-run triple."

Gio pointed to New York plating eight runs despite nobody on the team hitting a home run, while Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso finished the day without driving in a run. That bodes well for the team's chances moving forward, as the bats are making their presence known throughout the lineup, even on days when the big bats are kept in check.

"If you're going to win in the postseason - we've seen the opposite with the Yankees in the postseason for years - you have to get contributions one through nine," Gio said. "That shows you they can win all sorts of ways."
