Gio: No team has ever shocked me more than 2024 Mets

The Mets once again shocked the baseball world, this time thanks to a Pete Alonso three-run home run in the ninth inning against Devin Williams, one of the best closers in baseball for nearly three years.

On the heels of the team's comeback in Atlanta on Monday, which was capped off by Francisco Lindor's go-ahead home run, Gio is having trouble remembering a team in his lifetime that caught him so off guard in the best way as these 2024 Mets.

"I can't remember, in any of the teams I have rooted for in my entire life, being this shocked and surprised with results than this group," Gio said. "This is not recency bias. I remember 2015, the football seasons I have gone through and seen, there is not a team that has shocked me and surprised me time and time again in a positive way as this team.

"They were done. They were dead. They had a team meeting, and we were making fun of it. You look back on it, and it might be the best thing that may have happened."

But Gio doesn't anticipate himself being surprised any longer. These Mets have shown him more than enough to believe that they are capable of making more noise in the postseason, even as the tough Phillies await in the NLDS.

"This team is so special that I now believe they're capable of anything!" Gio said. "After last night, they're capable of anything!"
