Gio: 'No way' game one loss is reason to believe Mets are overmatched against Dodgers

The Mets were blown out by the Dodgers in game one of the NLCS on Sunday night, losing 9-0 in a game that felt like it was getting out of reach by the second inning.

Still, even as New York faces its toughest test so far this postseason, Gio doesn't see Sunday's lopsided loss as a reason to believe that the magic has run out.

"I'm not too concerned after that performance," Gio said. "I really feel like this team can bounce back, take one, and then you get three at home. But that was brutal.

"Getting one in LA is the priority. You didn't get the first one, and now you have an opportunity with Manaea on the mound."

The Mets have their ace in Manaea going in Monday's game two, with the Dodgers countering with a bullpen game. If New York can come away with the win, they will have the momentum, and home field advantage, heading into game three. Gio believes that is more than possible, even if the series got off to about as rough a start as one could have surmised, starting with Kodai Senga's brutal outing.

"To toss him out there again…he really has faced nobody," Gio said of Senga. "To throw him out there against a dodger lineup like that, it felt like it just set the tone for what was gonna be a miserable night.

"I did not look at last night as if the Mets are overmatched…no way."
