Gio says Steve Cohen era has been 'a nightmare' so far: 'He doesn't know what works'

As the Mets pivot from paying aging star pitchers to rebuilding their farm system, many have praised Steve Cohen's open mindedness to pivot and try to build sustained success in Queens.

Gio isn't a part of that group.

"Everybody says he's still the greatest and he's gonna spend all the money," Gio said. "His ownership to this point has been a nightmare. A total nightmare."

Boomer argued that the Mets just won 101 games under Cohen's watch a year ago, but Gio doesn't believe anything positive should come out of that season.

"OK, and they fell apart and had nothing to show for it," Gio said. "Then they brought back the same team and they sucked! He doesn't know what he's doing. Everybody says he has all this money and knows what he's doing. He threw a bunch of money at people, it failed miserably, and now he's completely changing course.

"That drives me nuts. All I remember from the season was that they blew the division…then got their asses kicked, and came back and sucked this season. Who were the 2022 Mets? They got their asses kicked in two of the biggest series that mattered, and all you remember from that [Wild Card] series is Edwin Diaz coming out to trumpets. That's it. Now here they are, just rubble. Just total rubble. Winning 101 games, it means nothing, especially when you come back this year and puke on yourselves."

Gio's honeymoon phase with Cohen is over, and needs to see a clear sense of direction to believe in him again.

"He's making it up as he goes along," Gio said. "He doesn't know what works."
