Gio: Mets fans kidding themselves if they believe Steve Cohen tenure has been good

As the Mets are once again without a GM following Billy Eppler's resignation, Gio says fans of the team are kidding themselves if they still consider Steve Cohen's tenure to be a good one so far.

"Steve Cohen has been miserable with hiring these guys since he got here," Gio said. "Every Met fan doesn't want to believe that his tenure has been bad because of what they came through with the Wilpons…and no, I don't think it's the Wilpons all over again, but you had Jared Porter, who turned out being a pervert, you had Zack Scott, who had his drunk driving arrest, he ended up getting out of that, but still was fired for it…then you get Billy Eppler, and say what you want about a 101-win season, his big trade deadline acquisitions were Darin Ruf and Daniel Vogelbach. Now he's amid controversy by stashing healthy players on the injured list so he can gain a competitive advantage, and then resigned.

"Steve Cohen's hires for GM since he got here have been disastrous. This David Stearns hire better be the best one. That 101-win season is the bright, shiny object that has been up there with the Steve Cohen tenure. That season ended horribly, and the rest of the Steve Cohen tenure has been as bad as any Mets stretch that we've seen."

Stearns will now be tasked with bringing in his own choice for general manager, and Gio says it needs to be a successful pick, or the narrative of front office hires during Cohen's tenure will only get worse.

"Up to this point," Gio said. "You are kidding yourself if you think the Steve Cohen tenure has been a good tenure."
