Kodai Senga elected to not pitch in Tuesday night's All-Star Game, noting that he wanted to stay healthy and rested for the rest of his debut season with the Mets.
"A big goal of mine was to stay in the rotation throughout the whole entire year without an injury," Senga said. "That's still my goal and that's what I'm striving for. I'm focused on the season."
Senga, used to more rest in between starts playing in Japan, has had his starts shuffled around at times this season, and Gio says it is getting to be a little much in terms of what Senga needs to stay at his best.
"This guy needs a lot of rest, man," Gio said.
Boomer countered that it's a good thing that Senga is prioritizing the Mets, but Gio isn't so sure.
"Is it? You pay this guy a lot of money, and you expect him to traditionally pitch like every other starter in Major League Baseball, and he can't do that," Gio said, before Boomer said he's simply building up in his first big league campaign. "He should have laid that in the offseason, like everybody else does…building up for what, that meaningless September that the Mets are barreling towards?"
