Infielder Jonathan Villar and the Cubs have reached an agreement on a contract, Robert Murray of FanSided reported Thursday.
Villar, 30, hit .249 with 18 homers, 42 RBI, and a .738 OPS in 142 games for the Mets in 2021. He’s a career .258 hitter with a .729 OPS across nine MLB seasons.
A middle infielder for most of his career, Villar started 86 games at third base, 23 at shortstop, and eight at second base for the Mets last season.
