Jacob deGrom threw another bullpen session on Saturday morning, a continuation of his typical routine in between starts as he looks to be ready for his next scheduled outing on Monday.
But after leaving his start early for the second straight time earlier this week, the Mets will be careful with their ace, and will continue to take things day by day.
But deGrom, speaking to reporters after the bullpen session, says the plan is to proceed as he typically would for his next start.
"The plan is to go as normal," deGrom said. "That's the plan. We'll see what tomorrow brings."
DeGrom left his last start after three perfect innings due to right shoulder soreness, his first start since leaving another outing early due to flexor tendonitis. The Mets don't see the injuries as linked, and an MRI on deGrom's shoulder came back clean.
New York elected not to put deGrom on the IL but watch him closely as he prepares for his next start. But a second bullpen session suggests that the MVP candidate, who turned 33 on Saturday, will be ready to go for his next outing.
"If I feel terrible tomorrow, which I don't anticipate that," deGrom said when asked what he thought would keep him from his next start. "I think we'll see how tomorrow feels and go from there."
