Former hyped Mets prospect Jarred Kelenic, now with the Mariners, has been placed on the IL with a broken foot after angrily kicking a cooler following a ninth-inning strikeout on Wednesday night.
Kelenic, the former sixth overall pick by the Mets before being sent to Seattle in the trade that brought Edwin Diaz and Robinson Cano to New York, was in tears speaking with reporters about the injury.
“I let the emotions get the best of me there,” Kelenic said. “I just feel terrible. Especially for the guys. I let them down.”
Kelenic was putting together a solid season, posting a .759 OPS with 11 home runs in 326 at-bats. It had been by far his best MLB season since making his debut in 2021.
