Jerry: Mets are facing tough task to get into final playoff spot
The Mets picked up a big win against the red-hot Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, but remain three games back of a playoff spot after the Braves took down the Twins earlier in the night.
For Jerry, the results of Tuesday evening highlight how New York has a difficult road ahead of it in terms of securing the final playoff spot.
"The problem is, the Diamondbacks and Padres have played so well that they've kind of separated themselves…catching them is going to be hard," Jerry said.
"You have your sights set on the Braves. The problem is, if you're a Met fan, the Braves have been the problem for years and years…just when you think, with all the injuries, that it might finally be the year the Braves stumble and fall, they keep finding ways to win."
With the Mets three games behind Atlanta and just over a month to go in the season, New York will likely need help from the Braves in some form if they are to clinch a postseason berth. They didn't get any such help on Tuesday, even as Atlanta continues to battle a relentless injury bug.
"They went into that game knowing they had to beat a really good Diamondbacks team just to keep pace," Jerry said. "That's hard to do."
