Pete Alonso's name continue to pop up in trade rumors, and Jerry and Joe want to see those squashed immediately.
How can that be accomplished? Simple. Steve Cohen should lock up the Mets homegrown star to a long-term deal immediately.
"Sign him. Get it done," Joe said. "Uncle Stevie, sign him now. That's it.
"I don't need what the Yankee fans had to deal with with Aaron Judge last year heading into free agency. I want this guy signed now."
Jerry is in full agreement, and says the Mets should show their commitment to Alonso by signing him this winter, and not allowing him to even flirt with the idea of free agency, and show him that they aren't entertaining the idea of trading him while he is in his prime.
"I would not wait until free agency like they did with Brandon Nimmo," Jerry said. "Even [Edwin] Diaz got to free agency. I wouldn't go that route. I would do it now, before free agency. He's 29 years old, buy out his final year of arbitration, and make this 29-year-old season part of the deal, to where you feel like you're getting your money's worth. This is the prime of his career right now."
