Mets fans were trolling Javier Baez for his “thumbs down” gesture on Tuesday, at least until he scampered home to score the winning run, but Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar also got in on the fun.
Aguilar, after staring down Francisco Lindor in the Mets dugout while stepping on first to record an out in the second inning, began playfully jawing back and forth with Lindor before making a thumbs down in some banter between ex-teammates.
The two former teammates (they played together in Cleveland’s minor league system) were likely messing with each other, but it’s clear that the thumbs down story isn’t going away, even after Lindor and Baez tried to apologize before Tuesday’s game.
