As Jeurys Familia’s 2021 season, and perhaps his tenure as a Met, draws to a close, the reliever took to Instagram to share his gratitude before what could be his final two games with the team.
With just two games left on New York’s schedule and the playoffs out of reach, Familia, set to become a free agent at the end of the season, seems to be acknowledging that this could be the end of his time with the Mets, where he has spent more than nine of his 10 big league seasons.

“I have no words to describe all my feelings for New York,” Familia wrote. “I know that things have not been easy but every day that I get out of bed one of the first things that cross my mind is what to do to be better and give the best to the best fans in the world of baseball. The Mets organization gave me the opportunity to see my dream come true and I will never forget it. I have a very large tattoo in the depths of my heart that says Mets for life.”
Familia pitched to a 3.94 ERA in 59.1 innings entering Saturday’s action, and aside from a brief stint with the A’s in 2018 after being traded before the deadline, has spent his entire career in a Mets uniform. Familia debuted with the Mets in 2012, recorded 43 saves in 2015 to help the Mets to an NL East title and World Series appearance, and led the league with 51 saves in 2016 to earn his lone All-Star selection. It has been a rocky road for Familia ever since, but it seems like he will only look back on his time in New York with fondness, if this indeed is the end.

“For the fans, despite all the boos, bad words and everything bad that they may think of me or wish me, I put myself in their chair and I understand it perfectly, they have been waiting for a championship for many years and they will always occupy an important space in my life,” Familia said. “Thank you LGM for life.”
