Keith: 'Crazy' for Pete Alonso to 'flex' that he was an All-Star this season

Keith opened Monday's show with reactions to Pete Alonso's viral comments before the Mets' series opener against the Cardinals, where the Mets slugger was asked what he believes is behind his underwhelming season in a contract year.

"I'm on pace for close to 40 homers, I was an All-Star this year, so I think to beat myself up or be frustrated, it's really no use," Alonso said. "I'm really excited for the end of the year where we get to play winning baseball. I'm happy with what I've accomplished this year so far, and I think there's definitely going to be some opportunities that I look forward to capitalizing on."

For Keith, Alonso sounded like a player who is done talking about his performance in 2024, but regardless of the mindset, the comments didn't come off well.

"I don't think Pete cares at this point," Keith said. "I think he knows that his future is up in the air.

"He knows he's in a down year and a contract year. He knows he went out and hired Scott Boras. But to say you're on pace for close to 40 home runs…to flex that you were an All-Star this year, that's crazy. How much did we talk about on this station about Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor not getting the nod when they deserves it more, and you using the leverage of only going to the Home Run Derby if you had a spot in the game? Come on Pete, don't act like you had a banner year and were the best first baseman in the National League. You were not."
