Keith: Mets need to find a taker for Jeff McNeil

The Mets managed to overcome a blown save by Edwin Diaz and beat the Phillies in extra innings on Thursday, but it was once again a hitless night for the struggling Jeff McNeil.

As McNeil continues to be mainly a no-show in New York’s lineup, frustrated callers want to see McNeil benched, cut, or traded, as he is coming off a rough season in 2023 as well.

Keith isn’t opposed to cutting ties, and says it should happen soon.

“He’s not that guy anymore,” Keith said, noting that McNeil’s 2022 batting title feels like a lifetime ago at this point. “He doesn’t hit for power, he doesn’t hit for average. What does he do?

“You gotta try and trade him at the deadline to anyone who would take him.”

Whether it’s moving Mark Vientos to second base or Ronny Mauricio once he is healthy from ACL surgery, Keith is open to just about anything that results in McNeil being moved. Most Mets fans seem to agree.
