Keith: Mets recent success more evidence that New York fans 'have no patience'

The Mets have suddenly won four of their last five games after a dreadful 0-5 start, and Keith says it is a reminder that fans in New York are much too quick to jump to conclusions about their teams.

"In New York, we want everything right away," Keith said. "Faster than a New York minute. We got no patience, especially coming off last season, on both sides."

Mets fans raised plenty of concerns about slumping bats like Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, and Brandon Nimmo, but on Monday night, Nimmo blasted two home runs and drove in five to lead New York to a dramatic comeback win in Atlanta.

"Back then, I remember saying Brandon Nimmo is a baller," Keith said, looking back on Nimmo's 2022 campaign. "He went crazy [Monday night], and you love to see it, because he needed it."

Meanwhile, over in the Bronx, Nestor Cortes and Giancarlo Stanton are looking much better than they were when the season started, another reason to pump the brakes before losing it just days into the season.

"Again, slow down," Keith said. "So many people want to jump the conclusion of 'Nestor sucks.' Man, wait until these guys get home before we judge them. They went from Tampa to Texas to Arizona, and we're already making definitive statements about these guys.

"Folks were ready to drop [Stanton] in the lineup, trade him, cut bait with him, eat his contract. I said Boone stuck by him, give him the homestand…man, this is what it's supposed to look like."
