As Pete Alonso trade rumors continue, Keith is wondering why the Mets would ever consider dealing their homegrown star and one of the premier power hitters in baseball.
"If you go into this offseason and trade Pete Alonso," Keith said. "What are we doing here?"
Alonso has yet to hit 29 years old, and is on his way to a third 40-homer season in four full campaigns in the majors. The three-time All-Star is already on his way to becoming the best position player in franchise history, and Keith says entertaining trading that away is a foolish tactic.
"Steve Cohen is ripping the fabric of the Mets apart? What are we doing here?" Keith said. "That wasn't the plan. He's the face of the franchise. They don't make guys like that. There aren't guys who are guaranteed to hit 40 or 50 bombs growing on trees. You can't just trade for the next Pete Alonso. Prospects are suspects.
"I don't know what you're gonna get for Pete Alonso, but you don't know what you're gonna get for Pete Alonso."
