Billy Eppler has resigned as Mets general manager, and just hours after, reports came flooding in of Eppler and the team being under investigation by Major League Baseball for improper use of the IL.
For Keith, it was just the latest example of the Mets being the Mets.
“In a matter of three days, the Mets just find a way to have different headlines,” Keith said. “Pete Alonso hires BorasCorp, it was Billy Eppler who wanted Daniel Vogelbach in the lineup, Billy Eppler is stepping down. This is Metsy! It’s a mess! They call them the New York Mess!
“We don’t know what the future holds, but from the field not being covered last weekend, to the marlins almost having to come here to play another game, only the Mets can out-Mets the Mets and come up with these things. It just doesn’t happen anywhere else.”
Details have yet to emerge about the nature of the IL use violations, but it seems to have contributed to Eppler resigning, the latest Mets GM to leave or be removed from his post amid off-the-field issues. Meanwhile, Alonso is gearing up for free agency with the biggest agent in baseball, and the manager is gone after reportedly feuding with the GM over Daniel Vogelbach’s playing time.
“In the last week, if you Google Mets, all of the things I just listed came up,” Keith said. “There is only one franchise in baseball who seems to have all of this going on in their Mets world.”
