Keith rips performance of MLB umps so far this season

Just one day after Angel Hernandez made headlines once again behind the plate at Yankee Stadium, the umpiring crew in the Mets/Braves series opener in Atlanta heard plenty of criticism themselves.

Marcell Ozuna struck out looking on a pitch that looked to be well below the strike zone, and later in the game, a grounder to Brett Baty at third was ruled foul by third base umpire Chad Fairchild, who appeared to quickly change his ruling to fair before asking the rest of the crew to gather and discuss the call. It was still ruled foul, but Keith couldn't believe the performance from the umpires on Monday and to start the season as a whole.

"I'm losing my mind watching baseball, because these umps are so bad," Keith said. "I think I could do a better job. I want to try out. Give me an opportunity.

"Not just the balls and strikes. I don't know if I've ever seen a guy watch a ball right in front of him hit the chalk, put his hands up for a foul ball, then put his hands down for a fair ball…that type of stuff grinds my gears."
