Keith: 'Soft' Mets needed rainouts to hit 'reset' button on season
The Mets had an unexpected two days off thanks to nonstop rain in New York, and Keith says it was probably for the best, as it gave the team some time to reset and take a look in the mirror after getting knocked around for four games.
"Only the Mets can find ways to out-Mets the Mets," Keith said. "Those pussycats. Meow! Soft. Rhys Hoskins coming in there and bullying them, and the Tigers taking one in the tenth. I think it was good to take a couple days off."
Hoskins and the Brewers swept New York in an opening series where many felt like the team botched its retaliation against Hoskins following his hard slide into Jeff McNeil in the season opener. Then, the bats were nonexistent again in Monday's series opener against Detroit, leaving the Mets still winless. But Keith says the rainouts not just helped New York catch its breath, but set up a Thursday doubleheader where it is hard to drop both games, so perhaps the Mets finally get into the win column.
"Hit the reset button," Keith said. "'Whoa, this train is going the wrong way fast. Let's take a break and reset.'"
