Keith McPherson sounded off on the Mets and their several side stories unrelated to baseball, from the “Rally Pimp” to Grimace and now Hailey Welch, the “Hawk Tuah” girl made famous via social media who threw out the first pitch on Thursday.
“All of these gimmicks. Let’s go back to Timmy Trumpet. What does any of that have to do with baseball?” Keith said. “With the series on the line, with camp day today in Flushing, a bunch of kids coming out to cheer on the Mets…this can’t be for real. Hawk Tuah? Is she on the mound at Citi Field throwing out the first pitch?”
Keith says he is happy he doesn’t have to explain who Welch is to his son, but feels for the parents who did have to after taking their kids to Citi Field on Thursday afternoon.
“I understand if you were offended. I understand if you were mad,” Keith said. “Only the Mets can out-Mets the Mets.”
