Kodai Senga put together one of his best starts as a Met on Wednesday night, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings of work, while striking out 12.
It was an impressive performance against a mighty Rays lineup that came into the game leading the league in OPS, and it was a relief for Senga, who has his family in attendance at Citi Field.
"I'm just glad I didn't get booed when they were there," Senga said through his interpreter. "But I think I pitched well today. I pitched like I knew I had to, and I think it ended well."
Senga had four family members in attendance, his parents, his sister, and his sister's fiancé, and they got to see the righty blow past his previous career high in strikeouts, and got to see the best Mets win of the season, as the bats awakened with three home runs, the last a walk-off, three-run blast by Pete Alonso in the 10th inning.
