On Sunday, SNY cameras, and later their Twitter account, caught Mets pitcher Trevor May doing the "thumbs down" gesture in the dugout after Michael Conforto hit a home run – a scene which, on Monday, caused one Twitter user to resurface the video tweeting at Craig Carton when he claimed May was against Javier Baez and the start of the whole phenomenon:
@craigcartonlive @EvanRobertsWFAN @CLoprestiWFAN if may is against Baez, can you explain this??? https://t.co/k3KO4nVeuG

Craig responded by tagging May, asking him to "say it ain't so," and May did just that – so when another user asked why May was doing it, here was his response:
May has been chatting with fans on the platform all day regarding the situation, and also told Carton, when he asked if Baez was "lying or just misunderstood" over the genesis of the motion, the reliever offered the latter:
One thing is clear: thumbs down-gate isn't going away quietly, at least not until the Mets return from Monday's off day and address it in some fashion prior to Tuesday's game against the Marlins.
May, at least, seems to appreciate Monday's dialogue.
