The Los Angeles Angels announced Tuesday afternoon that they have suspended pitching coach Mickey Callaway, and will “work closely with MLB to conduct a full investigation.”
The statement says the Angels were made aware late Monday of the article that ran in The Athletic on Monday, which accused Callaway of inappropriate conduct towards several women in sports media.
Per ESPN's Alden Gonzalez, Callaway has denied any wrongdoing, which prevents him from being fired without an investigation:
Mets owner Steve Cohen and team president Sandy Alderson – the latter of whom hired Callaway as Mets manager in 2017 – released statements earlier Tuesday condemning the behavior. The Mets reportedly investigated similar allegations during Callaway’s first of two years as Mets skipper, at a time where then-general manager Alderson was away from the team battling cancer before stepping down as GM.
Cohen and Alderson fired newly-hired GM Jared Porter last month after it was revealed that Porter had partaken in similar inappropriate conduct, including sending lewd photos to a foreign reporter.
