Prior to Monday’s doubleheader with the Braves, the Mets reinstated Infielder Jeff McNeil from the 10-day injured list, and placed RHP Robert Gsellman on the 10-Day IL, retroactive to June 20, with a right lat strain.

Also, LHP Stephen Tarpley was added from Triple-A Syracuse as the team’s 27th man for the doubleheader.

McNeil, who had been on the IL since May 17 due to a left hamstring strain, was not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the doubleheader, but did pinch-hit for Jacob deGrom in the fifth, singling and later scoring. He just finished a five-game rehab assignment where, after going 0-for-2 in the first game with High-A Brooklyn, McNeil was 6-for-17 with one homer, two RBI, one walk, and four runs scored in four games for Triple-A Syracuse – slashing .400/.438/.733.

Gsellman has a 3.71 ERA in 26 2/3 innings this season, and allowed one run over two innings in his last outing on Saturday. Unfortunately, SNY's Steve Gelbs confirmed via multiple sources during the Game 1 broadcast that Gsellman's strain was indeed a tear, and he is expected to miss at least six-to-eight weeks.

Tarpley, 28, made one appearance for the Mets earlier this season, facing four batters in the Mets’ April 24 loss to the Nationals and allowing two runs on one hit, two walks, and one hit batter. He has a 14.63 ERA in eight Triple-A innings, but will hopefully bolster a Mets bullpen, at least for one day, that has an iffy Jacob deGrom starting Game 1 of the doubleheader and a TBD for Game 2.
