Adam Ottavino, a New York native, paid tribute to a local basketball star after shutting down the Padres in the ninth inning on Monday night.

Ottavino struck out the side in the final frame of Monday’s win at Citi Field, and finished off the 5-0 win by Ha-Seong Kim looking on a two-seamer on the outside edge. After the called third strike was made, Ottavino walked off the mound while pounding three fingers against his head three times, an homage to former Knicks star Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony used to make the same gesture whenever he knocked down a 3-pointer, a familiar sight for New York sports fans, as Anthony converted 37 percent of his triples while averaging five attempts per game in seven seasons with the Knicks.
