Mets and Braves postponed, meaning Max Scherzer won't be able to pitch in series

After Friday's game was shortened by rain, Saturday's game between the Mets and the Braves was completely washed out.

New York announced on Saturday afternoon that the second game of its four-game set with Atlanta had been postponed, and would be made up as part of a split-admission doubleheader on Aug. 12.

On Friday, when the Mets and Braves were rained out in the fifth inning with Atlanta getting the abbreviated 4-0 win, fans at Citi Field were given a voucher for a free ticket to a future game.

This postponement comes with a less desirable caveat, as it now means that Max Scherzer won't be able to pitch in this series against Atlanta. Originally slated to be eligible to return from his 10-game suspension for Monday's series finale, Scherzer now won't be able to pitch until Tuesday against the Tigers.

Scherzer had told reporters he elected to not appeal his suspension specifically because he would be able to pitch against New York's divisional foe when he returned. Now, that's not the case.
