Mets and catcher Omar Narvaez agree to deal: Report

The Mets' busy offseason is reportedly continuing with another signing.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, New York is signing free agent catcher Omar Narvaez to a one-year deal with a player option for 2024, giving the Mets another option outside of James McCann, who could be traded if a suitor is found that is willing to take on his contract.

According to Jon Heyman, the deal is for $8 million. Robert Murray of FanSided reported that the two sides were closing in on a deal.

Narvaez played in just 84 games last season, batting .206 with four home runs. He was an All-Star with the Brewers in 2021, when he hit .266 with 11 home runs in 123 games.

The 31-year-old drastically improved his defense behind the plate when he arrived in Milwaukee, and would give the Mets another lefty bat in the lineup.

Tomas Nido is also still on the roster, and isn't a free agent until 2025.
