The Mets announced on Friday that they have avoided arbitration with all of their eligible players, except for Jeff McNeil.
Per the team, one-year deals were agreed upon with Pete Alonso, Jeff Brigham, Luis Guillorme, Elieser Hernandez, Tomas Nido, and Drew Smith. Alonso signed a $14.5 million deal, a record for an arbitration record for first basemen that was matched by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hours later.
According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Mets filed at $6.25 for McNeil, who filed at $7.75 million.
If the two sides don't reach an agreement, they would head to an arbitration hearing in February.
McNeil, the reigning National League batting champion, was one of the team's top offensive performers in 2022, batting .326 with an .836 OPS. He doesn't have much power, hitting nine home runs last season, but produced 5.7 WAR while playing infield and outfield.
Unless the two sides agree on a new deal, arbiters at the February hearing would have to decide on one of the figures filed by the two sides.
