As the wait for Yoshinobu Yamamoto continues, Keith wonders if the Mets would be better off moving on to a more proven MLB commodity that they could sign quicker, as reports indicate that Yamamoto could wait until after the holidays to pick his destination.
Yamamoto could get upwards of $300 million, and Keith says that could be too much for an unknown.
“Let’s say he signs with the Mets, and he’s got the adjustment period that Kodai Senga had, he’s not sharp, he’s homesick, maybe New York isn’t what he thought it was,” Keith said. “That’s a lot of money to commit to a player you’ve never seen.”
Bob called in and said he would rather go elsewhere in free agency and go after the likes of Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery, and Keith believes that could be a better route than going all in on a pitcher who hasn’t shown he can make it in the majors.
“Bob is right saying he’d rather just go get Snell or Montgomery, proven commodities,” Keith said. “Guys who have won World Series, won Cy Youngs, pitched in the postseason, and then bring Justin Turner home.”
