The Mets' trade deadline moves were widely criticized this past summer, as New York elected to make platoon improvements and not sacrifice too much of its farm system and long-term outlook.
Those additions, Daniel Vogelbach, Darin Ruf, and Mychal Givens, were non-factors in the team's three-game sweep at the hands of the Padres in last weekend's Wild Card Series, with Ruf struggling badly at the plate as soon as he arrived.
Still, Eppler has no regrets about the team's tactics before the deadline.
"I don't, because it's hard to pinpoint what would've been better," Eppler said. "You're dealing in a really short sample. I don't have any regrets on it. We improved our run scoring from that moment that we acquired Daniel, and moving forward, our runs per game was higher.
"It didn't fall our way in the end."
There were bigger impact bats on the market, including superstar Juan Soto and Nationals teammate Josh Bell, both of whom burned the Mets in the Wild Card Series. But Eppler and the Mets don't have second thoughts about what they could have done differently over the summer, and how that may have changed their outlook for the Wild Card Series and beyond.
