The bad vibes continued for the Mets on Wednesday night, suffering a sweep at the hands of the lowly Cubs at home, failing to increase their half-game lead over the Braves in the NL East.
The continued frustration led Boomer and Gio to discuss whether Timmy Trumpet has anything to do with this.
“Where’s Timmy Trumpet when you need him?” Boomer joked.
But Gio didn’t think it was any laughing matter.
“It seems like that was seven years ago at this point, everybody patting each other on the back and all that nonsense,” Gio said. “Maybe Jerry Seinfeld was right. That was the thing that turned. You could all point back to Timmy Trumpet. What’s the Mets record since Timmy Trumpet did his live performance?”
Seinfield, the celebrity superfan of the Mets, vented that the Timmy Trumpet spectacle with Edwin Diaz was early celebrating and giving the team “bad mojo,” something Boomer agreed with. But he is now trying to maintain perspective.
“It’s not all negative,” Boomer said. “It’s just that they got swept by the Cubs. I mean, come on.”
After review, Gio determined that things weren’t as bad as he thought since Timmy Trumpet performed at Citi Field, but things still aren’t good in Queens.
“That was the second game against the Dodgers,” Gio recalled. “They did win that series….they’re 7-7. They’re basically a .500 team.”
