Brandon Nimmo gave Mets fans a scare on Wednesday when he left the series finale against the Brewers with a quad injury.
But the center fielder is confident that it won’t be a long absence, and the day off on Thursday will help that hope along.
“This could be just a few days kind of thing than a few weeks,” Nimmo said. “I know if I catch things early, I can heal really fast. So that’s the decision that was made.”
New York is already down a key outfielder in Starling Marte, so losing Nimmo would be a big blow to a Mets team desperately trying to hold off the Braves in the NL East. Nimmo, who came up lame running in after a shallow fly ball, doesn’t sound too concerned.
“It already is feeling a little bit better from when I first did it,” Nimmo said. “So that’s encouraging.”
