Buck Showalter's Jacob deGrom update didn't shed any light on when Mets ace might throw again

While Jacob deGrom's MRI update showed "considerable healing" and cleared the Mets ace to begin "strengthening" his right shoulder that has kept him sidelined from spring training, manager Buck Showalter was mum on what that means for deGrom actually throwing a baseball.

Monday's late-night update didn't include any information on when deGrom might resume throwing in his recovery process from a stress reaction in his right scapula, and Showalter didn't provide any more clarity as to when deGrom might pick up a baseball again.

"We just know that when he starts throwing, he's gonna join us," Showalter said before Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. "I love talking to him today, because you can tell there was a real excitement in his voice that now he can really start getting after it knowing nothing is structurally an issue."

Showalter did say deGrom was thrilled to hear the news of his latest MRI, even if it didn't provide much clarity other than that his shoulder is healing as hoped.

"He's really upbeat and excited about the news that the healing process is taking place," Showalter said. "He's champing at the bit, because he's ready to go and wants to come be a part of it, and we do too."
