Chris Bassitt says he and Tomas Nido 'were not on the same page at all' before Tuesday's bounceback outing

After posting a 7.62 ERA in his last five starts, Chris Bassitt finally returned to form with a gem on Tuesday night, tossing eight scoreless innings to give the Mets a 4-0 win over the Brewers in the series opener.

What changed for Bassitt? Primarily, the veteran righty felt he was finally on the same page with his battery mate, Tomas Nido.

"Me and Nido were not on the same page at all," Bassitt said. "The more and more I fought, the worse and worse I did. We spent the last week getting to know each other and bettering the game.

"I just thought the last couple of games we would get on the same page and it just didn't happen.
And I blame myself. And I apologized to Nido and [Patrick] Mazeika. It was such an obvious thing to do and I just didn't do it."

Bassitt had been working primarily with James McCann since being traded to the Mets, but McCann went down with an injury, and Bassitt's production went down as a result. But it appears he may have finally figured things out with Nido, and takes the blame for it taking this long in the first place.

"I just think the extra time we had, I was able to completely break down what was going on," Bassitt said. "When it came to pitching itself I didn't make many adjustments there wasn't much, it's 100 percent all on me."
