Heading into Friday night's game against the Pirates, Daniel Vogelbach had not left the yard in nearly three weeks, a 17-game stretch in which he hit .159 with one extra-base hit.
The drought ended on Friday, much to the relief of the previously struggling Vogelbach, who seems to be putting his hamstring issue behind him.
"Is that how long it was?" Vogelbach joked when asked about his long ball drought.
Vogelbach is able to laugh it off because he wasn't putting much stock into his slump, though it became a bigger issue for others given the Mets' recent team-wide offensive struggles and their particular lack of production at the DH spot, where Vogelbach, along with others like Darin Ruf, were not finding their way at the plate.
But Vogelbach, who took off running at the start of his Mets tenure, hopes the blip on the radar of a long season is behind him.
"Hitting's hard," Vogelbach said. "I wish I would've had 20 homers over the last three weeks. You always can learn from the good, but you really can learn from the bad.
"If this was June and I was going through this, I don't really think anyone would have thought about it. but it's September and we're at the end of the season and have a chance to play for something special, so everything is magnified. I try not to magnify it, just try to keep working and believe that two or three good games gets you right back on track."
