Daniel Vogelbach experience quite a jump in the standings over the past few hours.
On Friday afternoon, he was buried down in the lackluster NL Central, and now, after being dealt to the Mets, he is atop the NL East, fending off the defending champion Braves in an effort to get back to the postseason.
"Pretty special group," Vogelbach told reporters in his first comments as a Met. "Pretty talented group that wins a lot of games. I'm excited to be here and blessed to be a small part."
Vogelbach, a 2019 All-Star, endured a lot of seasons of going nowhere fast while in Seattle, but is ready for another crack at a pennant chase, while the Mets hope he will help provide the lineup with some much needed power.
Perhaps being thrust into much higher stakes will pull a few more home runs out of that bat.
"Definitely goes to playing a little more meaningful baseball pretty fast," Vogelbach said. "I'm excited to be here. These last two, two and a half months of the regular season, every game matters. I got a little taste of it last year being with Milwaukee and playing meaningful games for the first time in my career. I feel like once you get a taste of it, you want more and more. I'm excited to be here."
