With the way the Mets are playing, it may only be the Dodgers as the team that stands in their way of their first National League pennant since 2015.
Los Angeles, as usual, is the best team in baseball, winners of 10 in a row, and would figure to be the toughest out in the New York's potential road to the Fall Classic.
Should the two teams meet in the playoffs, the Dodgers, armed with Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Trea Turner, and Will Smith, would likely be seen as the team with the offensive advantage, but what about the starting rotation?
Tiki and Tierney disagree on that front.
"The Dodgers rotation is bar none the best rotation in baseball," Tiki said, firing off names like Tony Gonsolin, Clayton Kershaw, Julio Urias, and Tyler Anderson.
But BT says he would take the Mets arms, especially those at the top.
"I don't know if I agree with that," BT said. "[Max] Scherzer and [Jacob] deGrom are better than those guys, are you kidding me? I'll take Scherzer and deGrom, and I'll throw [Chris] Bassitt in there.
"First of all, nobody on the planet is better than deGrom, so let's just start with that."
We can start with the fact that, when healthy, deGrom is certainly the best arm in either rotation. Scherzer and his 1.98 ERA and World Series experience isn't close behind, either. But the Dodgers are armed with four pitchers in their rotation currently carrying ERAs below 3.00, and one of their best pitchers in Walker Buehler will likely be a factor out of the bullpen come October, as he is recovering from a forearm straing.
Even depth starters for the Dodgers like Andrew Heaney has allowed just nine runs in 28 innings, good for a 0.64 ERA in his limited starts scattered around injuries.
So, when it comes to depth, Tiki gives the clear edge to Los Angeles.
"Do you trust Taijuan Walker over, say, Tony Gonsolin?" Tiki said.
But BT is still pointing to the top arms of the rotations that will likely get two starts apiece in a potential seven-game series.
"No," BT said. "But I don't think he's gonna have to pitch."
The Mets may very well not need Walker, as they could use a four-man rotation of deGrom, Scherzer, Bassitt, and Carlos Carrasco, another proven playoff performer who is currently enjoying one of the best stretches of his career. That stable of arms will be awfully tough to beat at full strength.
