Edwin Diaz will be representing the Mets at the All-Star Game on Tuesday night thanks to a dominant season that rivals his 2018 campaign with the Mariners, and he told Jon Heyman that he hopes to continue wearing a Mets uniform past 2022.
"I would love to stay," the pending free agent said.
Diaz, 28, is making $10.2 million this season and is setting himself up for a nice payday this winter if he continues on his current pace, holding 20 saves with a 1.69 ERA and a whopping 75 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work. He is also a critical piece of the New York bullpen after a disastrous start to his Mets tenure.
The Mets will also have Chris Bassitt, Trevor May, Brandon Nimmo, Seth Lugo, and Adam Ottavino in their free agent seasons, while Pete Alonso could be in line for an extension soon enough.
