Evan Roberts is 'very nervous' as Mets get ready to start playoffs

Game one of the three-game Wild Card Series is nearly here, and Evan Roberts is starting to sweat.

After last weekend's flop against the Braves, Evan's faith in this Mets team has faltered just a bit, but he is trying to remain excited for the first New York playoff game since the 2016 National League Wild Card Game.

"I'm very nervous," Evan said. "It's a mix of nervousness and raw excitement.

Still, the nervousness is already taking over, and has Evan picturing worst-case scenarios like last weekend's sweep at the hands of the defending champs to lose the NL East.

"Envisioning Juan Soto parking one over the Shea Bridge off Max Scherzer in the first inning, and Yu Darvish getting out of a two-on, no-out jam in the bottom of the first kind of makes my stomach itch," Evan said.

Craig can't understand the negativity, but Evan says it comes from a very simple and very recent source, not just being conditioned from years and decades of disappointment.

"For me, what happened last weekend, even though it shouldn't matter anymore…it's still fresh in my mind," Evan said. "It's still fresh in my mind how small everybody came up in what was essentially playoff baseball against the Braves.

"When you ask me as we get set for a playoff game, the first one in six years, 'Why are you nervous? Why are you fearing the worst?' I think there are reasons why!"
