Mets extend qualifying offers to Sean Manaea, Luis Severino

The Mets have reportedly extended the qualifying offer to both Sean Manaea and Luis Severino, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The qualifying offer this year is worth $21.05 million. Players have until Nov. 19 to either accept or reject the offer.

Both Manaea and Severino have cases to reject the qualifying offer and seek multi-year deals after enjoying strong seasons in 2024. Manaea and his new arm slot turned into the undeniable ace of the staff in the second half of the season, posting a 2.91 ERA over the final two months of the season. He faltered in his final start of the postseason, but heading into that start, he had allowed just five earned runs in 17 innings in his first three outings of the playoffs.

Manaea declined his player option for 2025, which would have been worth $14.5 million.

Severino came to the Mets off the worst season of his big-league career, but he thrived in Queens, posting a 3.91 ERA across 182 innings, his highest workload since 2018 after health issues had followed him for years.

If either player rejects the offer and signs elsewhere, the Mets will receive compensation in the 2025 MLB Draft.

In other Mets news, DJ Stewart and Joey Lucchesi elected free agency, while New York declined its team option on Phil Maton.
