The Mets have lost two in a row, while the Braves and Phillies are surging, and Craig Carton is loving the premature panic from the fanbase.
“You Mets fans are so cute,” Craig said during Thursday’s show. “Because you’re panicking. It’s just so cute.
“‘Oh no! this always happens to us! It usually happens around the All-Star break, but it’s happening early!’”
Evan insisted that Craig was incorrect, but he didn’t do the best job of proving him wrong.
“All of a sudden, the Braves have won seven in a row,” Evan said. “All of a sudden, the Phillies have won six in a row. All of a sudden, the Mets are besieged by injuries and they’re having a sub-.500 west coast trip.
“This is race, and this is going to be a race. I’m certain of it.”
It’s not quite a race, as New York still holds a seven game lead despite Atlanta’s recent streak, but even with a comfortable lead, Craig can sense the tension rising over in Queens, and he can’t help but laugh.
“All of a sudden the Mets are gonna be in a race,” Craig said. “They’ve had the best recording the National League the entire season, they lose [two] games in a row and it’s all panic. I hear you. Panic all day long.”
